FAR 91.3: Final Authority: emergencies
In an in-flight emergency requiring immediate action, the pilot in command may deviate from ANY rule of Part 91 to the extent required to meet that emergency. Pilot-in-command authority to deviate from FAR 91 for safety of flight issues.
May require a report to FSDO.
